Tonight, on the eve of the day we pulled out of our driveway in Minnesota four years ago, we've been reflecting on just how good and faithful our God has been.
Chris and I were talking about how we were such babies when we first stepped out. We had simply said "yes" to going and praying for a community called Harlem Heights. We had no idea what God was going to do through that simple, yet committed, yes.
I remember my mom praying over us as we were literally pulling out of the driveway for what we thought would be the last time. She prayed that in the absence of our biological family, God would place surrogate grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, cousins and siblings in our path.
And boy, has He ever.
We have the most incredible Framily. Friends who have become family. People who have heard the Lord's call and said "yes" in their own ways, giving of themselves to serve others, disciple others, and walk alongside us as we've all grown in our faith.
Time and time again, we've been the beneficiaries of the lavish love and generosity of God. And goodness, have we grown in learning to hear His voice and trust His leading.
Last week, Chris and I both felt a stirring in our spirits that it was time to move out of the home we've been blessed to live in for the past year in Black Mountain. We had permission to stay until January 1, and that was our plan. But we both felt this peaceful, yet urgent, prompting to move out within two weeks.
What took us six months to do four years ago, purging our lives and moving from a house into a camper, has taken us five short days this time. We still have that final 10% to go, but it's incredible how quickly the muscle memory kicks in when you've walked a similar road before.
The interesting part is that we actually don't know where we're going to live.
We've packed what we're keeping into totes and loaded them into a car trailer. The campers we own don't fit our family, and we don't have our next home figured out.
We spent a lot of time last week asking the Lord about a home. And He gave us a response that wasn't exactly what I thought I wanted to hear.
"Not yet."
And somehow, I have immense peace in that.
I trust we won't be homeless. I trust He knows exactly what our family needs. And I trust that when His good and perfect plan comes to fruition, my best-drawn-up plan will pale in comparison.
Four years ago, we left Minnesota not knowing what was ahead of us. Tonight, we find ourselves in a strangely familiar place, only this time we have four years of testimonies reminding us of His faithfulness.
And as another hurricane approaches the Gulf Coast, with landfall expected in the coming hours, our hearts are with the communities preparing for what may come.
So tonight, we'd love to ask you to join us in prayer.
For the communities in the path of this storm, for preservation of life, and for those who have endured devastating storms before and are still healing emotionally.
For the linemen, first responders, shelter volunteers, and our partners who are already staged and standing by, ready to serve.
For our Adventures Relief team as they wait on their next assignment from the Lord.
For our kids, who are once again saying yes to whatever comes next. They truly are incredible.
And for Chris and me as we seek the Lord's direction, rely on His provision, and prepare to lead our family and our team into the unknown, again.
We still don't know what God is going to do with our yes. But after four years of watching Him show up and show off, we have every reason to trust Him.
